Caldera is an independent Mexican-inspired restaurant and bar in the heart of Hackney serving traditional Mexican cuisine with a twist.
Our name is derived from the Spanish word for 'cauldron, chosen to represent our globally-influenced menu. Our chefs have curated dishes that highlight the best of Mexican gastronomy alongside ingredients from across the world to offer you something new and unique.
Skeleton Cardboard, a street artist from East London, launched in 2010 and is inspired by Mexico’s ‘Day of the Dead’ festival. One of his murals is painted inside the restaurant, depicting a group of skeletons.
He also designed unique new uniforms for our staff with a focus on Mexican-influenced themes and culture. We love to support and work with local artists – and for us, this partnership was a match made in heaven.
Founder, Arya Razi
Arya Razi founded Caldera in 2019 through a desire to create an all-day dining space that both challenges the stereotypes of Mexican cuisine and puts the spotlight on less familiar Mexican gastronomy.
Inspired largely by his father, who has worked in the hospitality industry for much of his life, Arya shares the same passion for entertaining guests. For him, nothing beats seeing guests come into his restaurant and leave happy.
